Linux Distributions and Who is Responsible For the Software
News Source : Hackaday
News Summary
- Distros typically have their own repositories, user repositories and the possibility to install 3rd party package managers (e.g. nix).
- Developers offer AppImages, Flatpaks or language-specific installers (python, rust, go, …).
- Usually there is a plethora of ways to install the same piece of software instead of the other way around.
- If the software is provided via the distro, it is their responsibility, the same way that you contact the developer if you get a DEB or RPM from a GitHub project page and it doesn’t work.
